Privacy Policy

Last Updated: September 10, 2018

RestaurNote takes protecting your privacy seriously, provided you are using the service in good faith consistent with the spirit of the service, and adhering to the RestaurNote Terms of Service. The RestaurNote Privacy Policy is outlined herein.

RestaurNote reserves the right to update this Privacy Policy and its Terms of Service at any time, with or without notice. Continued use of the service constitutes acceptance of these policies and terms.

Your Information

Usage of RestaurNote requires creating an account, including entering basic profile information (name, email, etc). This information is not shared with any other third-party. The "Display Name" you choose for your account is the only publicly displayed identifying information about you, and is only shown on any notes you share publicly.

The email address you provide to RestaurNote is only used for occasional account related emails. It will never be sold to or shared with any third-party.

Our servers use standard browser HTTPS (SSL/TLS) encryption technology to ensure data transmitted between your device and our servers, in either direction, are protected and can not be seen by others.

Your account password is stored on our servers only via cryptographically-secure salted hashing. We never store your password in plain text, and it cannot be recovered. If you forget your password, you'll only be able to choose a new password via the email address attached to your account. If you no longer have access to this email address, your account access cannot be recovered.

Our servers retain basic information related to users' use of the RestaurNote service, including web server access logs, a database for storing user account information and notes, etc. We do not share this information with any third-party.

You have the right to delete your account at any time. If you delete your account, all of your account information including any notes you've created, will be permanently removed from our system. However, our web server access logs may retain minimum necessary information and records related to your usage of the service, for a period of time after your account deletion. Deleting your account is permanent and can not be undone.

RestaurNote asks you to share your device's geo-location (GPS accessed through your browser or mobile device). This geo-location/GPS is necessary to filter locations and notes to be relevant and useful to your current location. We do not store your current geo-location/GPS information as part of your account. If you create a location, the geo-location/GPS that's selected on your device at that time will be stored as the coordinates of that location. If you deny access to your device's geo-location/GPS, you may manually choose locations on the map, but the effectiveness of RestaurNote may be significantly degraded. This may also limit your access to certain features.

All notes that you choose to create with RestaurNote can be marked private-only (only visible to you), or shared publicly. If your note is marked as private, it may contain any content you find useful. If your note is shared publicly, it may be viewed by any other user of RestaurNote. Publicly shared notes must not contain any content that resembles personally-identifying information (persons' names, addresses, contact information, etc), or otherwise violates your or anyone else's privacy.

RestaurNote will never share any of your information with any third-party, without your knowledge and expressed consent, unless required to do so by applicable authorities in a respective legal jurisdiction.

Cookies & Caches

RestaurNote uses cookies and other persistent storage mechanisms in your browser/device to ensure convenient and expected behavior.

Your login session is tracked by cookies. If you choose the "Keep Me Logged In" option at time of registration/login, cookies with a 90-day expiration are set. These cookies are updated to extend their 90-day expiration every time you visit the site. If you do not use the site for a period of greater than 90 days, these cookies will expire and you will be logged out.

If you do not choose the "Keep Me Logged In" option, the login cookies last until you close the app or the browser window. If you choose to logout, all login cookies are removed. If you have installed RestaurNote as an "app", uninstalling it will also remove this information.

For convenience, your chosen "Display Name" and "Default Map Location" (in the event of no GPS signal) are stored temporarily in the app instance or current browser window tab. Once closed, this information is removed. If you choose to logout, this information is also removed. If you have installed RestaurNote as an "app", uninstalling it will also remove this information.

Upon first visit, your device is checked for feature compatibility, and the results of this test are stored persistently (no expiration). Your awknowledgement of this Privacy Policy and the Terms of Service is also stored persistently (no expiration). Also, your last acquired GPS coordinates are stored persistently (no expiration, but not used if older than 36 hours). If you delete your account, the feature test results, acknowledgement, and last-known GPS are removed. If you have installed RestaurNote as an "app", uninstalling it will also remove this information.

The registration form used to sign up for a RestaurNote account persistently stores the information as you enter it into the input boxes (except for the passwords), even before you've submitted this information to create an account. This storage is local on your device only. This convenience-only feature helps prevent loss of your entered data if for some reason the app closes or the page is refreshed while you are trying to register. This information is deleted once you register successfully, or if you click the "Reset" button on that page.

RestaurNote uses Google Maps to provide users with maps and location services. Google Maps stores temporary cookies as part of their service. RestaurNote does not in any way access any of this information. All information collected and retained by Google are subject to Google's Terms of Service and Privacy Policies.

RestaurNote makes every reasonable effort to ensure proper and convenient usage of the service, website, and app (should you choose to install), even in the case of your device's internet connection becoming unavailable. As such, if your browser supports the necessary features, RestaurNote stores all its site resources (images, code, etc) into persistent caches on your device, for use offline. RestaurNote may also cache certain information for offline use, such as available locations nearby, notes at a location, etc. Logging out does not remove this information. Deleting your account will clear these caches.

Using any browser or device configuration (such as Private Browsing Mode), which prevents or manipulates this caching, may adversely affect the usage of the service.
